If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re that person who’s tried everything.
You know the one – you’ve read the self-help books, done the therapy sessions, practiced the breathing techniques, and maybe even tried that expensive retreat that promised to “change your life forever.” Yet here you are, still feeling like you’re running on a hamster wheel of the same patterns, the same triggers, and the same exhausting cycles that leave you wondering if you’re just fundamentally broken.
Spoiler alert: You’re not broken. You’re just stuck. And honey, there’s a massive difference.
My Story (Or: Why I Blend My Psychology Textbooks with a Holistic Approach)
Hi, I’m Mona-Lize, and I’m probably not your typical therapist. With over 11 years of experience in this field, I split my time between the UAE and Cape Town, but my work lives in the beautiful online space where I get to connect with incredible humans across Europe, the USA, and beyond.
My journey into this work started in the most traditional way possible – with a Western Psychology degree and a genuine desire to help people heal. I loved the science of it all, the way we could map the mind and understand why we do the things we do. But as I sat across from clients week after week, a nagging question kept surfacing: Okay, so now we know WHY you’re stuck… but HOW do we actually get you unstuck?
Because here’s the thing – awareness is powerful, but awareness alone doesn’t always create lasting change. You can understand exactly why you have trust issues, why you attract the same type of partner, or why you feel anxious in social situations, but that understanding doesn’t automatically rewire your nervous system or release the trauma stored in your body.
That’s when I started exploring the holistic realm – energy work, trauma release techniques, and approaches that treated the root cause rather than just managing symptoms. And honestly? I wasn’t starting from scratch. I’d grown up around these concepts, but like many of us, I’d tucked them away in favor of more “acceptable” approaches.
As I began experimenting with these methodologies on myself (because let’s be real, we therapists are often our own first guinea pigs), something incredible happened. Patterns that had been stuck for years began to shift. Triggers that used to send me into a tailspin started losing their power. I was finally experiencing the kind of transformation I’d been hoping to facilitate for others.
That’s when I knew I had to share this work. Because no one – and I mean no one – needs to live in trauma or therapy for the rest of their lives.
The People I Work With (AKA: My People)
You might be reading this thinking, “This sounds too good to be true,” and I get it. You’ve probably been disappointed before. But if you’re someone who feels like nothing you’ve tried is actually working – if you can’t seem to break those cycles no matter how much you understand them intellectually – then you’re exactly who I’m here for.
Maybe you struggle with human connection. Maybe every close relationship feels affected by something you can’t quite name. Maybe you feel depressed, stuck, or like you’re living your life from behind a glass wall, watching everyone else seem to have figured out something you’re missing.
Here’s what I want you to know: those repetitive patterns, those triggers that seem to come out of nowhere, those reactions that feel way bigger than the situation warrants – they’re not character flaws. They’re trauma responses stuck in your amygdala (your caveman brain, if you will – think Fred Flintstone hitting the panic button every time he sees a dinosaur, except your dinosaur might be a text message or a certain tone of voice).
When we experience “trauma” (and I put that in quotes because trauma isn’t always what we think it is – it’s not just the big, obvious things), our brain’s alarm system can get stuck in the “on” position. This creates biological, emotional, and physical responses that can be severe, but sometimes they’re so subtle we don’t even realize they’re happening.
The beautiful thing? If we can link a repetitive pattern to trauma in your life, we can shift it out of that alarm center, removing the biological response. That’s how we actually eliminate triggers instead of just managing them.
Why I Combine Western Psychology with Holistic Healing
I believe Western Psychology is incredible at helping us find the root cause of our patterns and understanding how our minds work. It gives us the roadmap. But holistic approaches? They’re phenomenal at actually treating the cause instead of just the symptoms. They’re the vehicle that gets us where we want to go.
When you combine both approaches, magic happens. We get the precision of understanding exactly what’s happening in your system, plus the tools to actually create lasting change at the energetic, emotional, and cellular level.
As I’ve navigated my own healing journey, I’ve learned that healing isn’t linear. We all need different types of support at different times, and what works for one person might not work for another. That’s why I’m passionate about individualized approaches that honor your unique story, your specific patterns, and your personal path to wholeness.
What This Space Is About
This isn’t a place where I’m going to try to sell you on the idea that healing should be hard, expensive, or take decades. It’s also not where I’ll pretend that transformation happens overnight with a few positive affirmations.
This is a space for real talk about real healing. It’s where we explore the beautiful complexity of being human, the patterns that keep us stuck, and the surprisingly accessible tools that can set us free.
You’ll find educational content that actually makes sense, stories that help you feel less alone, and insights that bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern understanding. Because healing doesn’t have to fit in anyone else’s box – including mine.
A Little Something Extra
I should probably mention that I’m slightly obsessed with the stars and how our cosmic blueprint influences the way we connect, love, and heal. But don’t worry – I promise not to blame everything on Mercury retrograde (though sometimes it really is Mercury’s fault, let’s be honest).
You Belong Here
If you’ve made it this far, you belong here. Whether you’re just starting to question why the same patterns keep showing up in your life, or you’re deep in your healing journey and looking for that missing piece – there’s space for you here.
You’re not too much. You’re not too broken. You’re not too complicated.
You’re exactly where you need to be, and I’m honored to be part of your journey.
Welcome home, beautiful soul. ✨
